We help organisations understand and reduce their CO2 footprint, ensuring compliance with SBTi standards.
CO2 footprint in accordance with the GHG Protocol, optionally SBTi-ready. We also calculate simple, quick CO2 footprints. We conduct CO2 inventories following the GHG Protocol, including scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3. The CO2 footprint can be delivered as a standalone deliverable, or as the basis for an SBTi programme with target formulation and submission. Step 4 in the process, the SBTi programme, is optional and is only carried out when the client requests it.
You receive a reproducible model with clear data definitions and an audit-ready dataset, a clear breakdown per scope and concrete recommendations for reduction. If an SBTi programme is desired, we handle the target formulation and the administrative submission to SBTi. We also deliver compact, quick footprint calculations for clients who want a rapid overview.

A CO2 footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases your company emits directly and indirectly, expressed in tonnes of CO2 equivalents. It is the basis for climate targets, CSRD reporting and SBTi programmes. Without a footprint, there is no reduction plan.
Scope 1 covers direct emissions (own gas, fuel, refrigerants). Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased energy (electricity, heat). Scope 3 covers all other indirect emissions in the value chain (procurement, transport, commuting, waste). Scope 3 typically accounts for 70-90% of the total footprint.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validates corporate climate targets. Science-based targets are reduction goals aligned with the Paris Agreement (1.5°C). SBTi distinguishes between near-term targets (5-10 years) and long-term targets (up to 2050).
The full SBTi programme takes an average of 3 to 6 months: CO2 footprint calculation (4-8 weeks), target formulation (2-4 weeks) and validation by SBTi (up to 6 months waiting time). Kroll SR guides the entire process.
The costs depend on the complexity of your organisation and the desired scope. A scope 1+2 footprint for an SME can be prepared relatively quickly. Scope 3 is more intensive due to data collection across the value chain. Contact us for a no-obligation estimate.
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is the international standard for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas emissions. It distinguishes between scope 1, 2 and 3 and is used by SBTi, CSRD/ESRS and most sustainability frameworks.
Since 2025, FLAG targets (Forest, Land and Agriculture) are mandatory for companies with significant forest, land or agricultural activities in their value chain (>20% of scope 3). This applies, for example, to food companies and retailers.
A CO2 footprint looks at the total greenhouse gas emissions of your organisation. An LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) examines the full environmental impact of a specific product or service, including water use, land use, acidification and more.
