Our collaboration with Scherpenhuizen, which began with the 2022 Sustainability Report, has once again resulted in a detailed and informative report.
While the 2022 report was solely GRI-compliant, the 2023 report now also meets the new ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) requirements of the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). This expansion reflects Scherpenhuizen's commitment to meeting the most recent and stringent sustainability standards.
The integration of ESRS standards represents a significant expansion of reporting requirements, including detailed qualitative information on governance, the business model and materiality topics.
Thanks to the concrete (new) double materiality assessment and the strong commitment of the organisations, we succeeded in presenting a robust and transparent report based on the ESRS.
The report shows, among other things, that Scherpenhuizen and its supply chain have a significant impact on various aspects of sustainability. They make an important contribution to the food supply by delivering food safely and with high quality to the retailer. In addition, they are working hard to reduce negative impacts. The 2023 report demonstrates how they have made progress in areas such as emissions and circularity. One example is the reduction of total waste volume by 14% compared to 2022, as well as the successful recycling of avocado crates into new products.
Producing this comprehensive report was only possible thanks to the decisive and constructive contributions from the Scherpenhuizen team. The ESRS requirements presented new challenges, but thanks to the joint effort we were once again able to compile an accurate and honest report.
